Best Budget MTB Pants I've Found (Andean Trails Review)
Living in Southern California, I ride in shorts most of the year. But when it gets cold in the mornings, or when I head up into the mountains, I usually end up throwing on jeans.
The problem is jeans aren't great for riding. They're stiff, don't breathe well, and the loose legs can catch on the chainring. I've worn downhill pants before too, but I didn't want anything bulky or heavy. Just something affordable, comfortable, and fitted enough to move in.
After searching Amazon for a while I came across the Andean Trails Mountain Bike Pants. After my first ride I was honestly impressed — and a couple months of regular use later, I still like them.

If you want budget MTB pants that actually work, comfortable, non-snagging, and good for cool mornings or mountain days, yes. You're not getting premium downhill pant construction, but for the price they ride well and hold up.

What I Like
They're comfortable in a way that jeans never are on a bike, more like athletic pants but cut for riding. The stretch is real, not just marketing. When you're pumping terrain or moving around aggressively the fabric doesn't fight you.
The tapered legs are probably the most practically useful thing about them. If you've ever had a loose pant leg chew itself into your chainring you know why this matters. These stay out of the drivetrain.
The zipper pockets are solid. When I'm filming or hiking features I don't want stuff shifting around or falling out. Zippers handle that.
One thing I didn't expect: they fit knee pads underneath without feeling tight or weird. A lot of pants that look good fall apart here. These don't.

Rain Ride Update — Late May 2026
I got caught out in rain on a recent ride. It was a light drizzle when I left but turned into real rain by the time I was out on the trail — which for Southern California counts as a proper wet day. These pants handled it better than I expected for how light they are. Water repelled off them pretty well, my legs felt dry inside, and they never got heavy or soaked through. The zipper pockets kept things dry too — though I still put my phone in a ziplock bag just in case, which I'd do regardless.
After washing them several times now the color hasn't faded and they're still in good shape. Zippers work fine. No complaints on durability for the price.
What I Don't Like
No cargo pocket, no back pocket. That's really it. It's my only complaint and it's not a dealbreaker, but it would make them perfect.
Who These Are For
Good fit if you're a beginner or budget rider, ride in cooler weather or the mountains, do trail or enduro style riding, film content and want pants that look clean, or you're just tired of jeans snagging on your bike.
If you crash hard on rocky DH trails regularly and need serious abrasion resistance, you'll want something built heavier. But for most riders these are a solid pick.
